The free version of Lex includes unlimited documents and basic AI features, but if you want premium AI editing capabilities, we recommend Lex Pro.

What is the benefit of upgrading?

  1. Access to the biggest and best AI models (like Claude 3.5 Sonnet and GPT-4o). These really do make a surprisingly large impact on the quality you get. If you want to try before you buy, just hit reply and ask for a free trial, or just subscribe to the monthly version and I’ll happily offer a refund if you don’t think you’ll end up using it.

  2. Unlimited AI Usage. Get targeted, insightful feedback that goes far deeper (but still includes!) the superficial grammar touch-up other AI-enabled tools provide. The free version limits the amount of AI Messages and Checks you get: 50 Ask Lex messages and 30 Checks per month, powered by weaker AI models.

  3. Early access to new features (we are releasing a beta feature now to select Pro users), our iOS app, and more.

  4. Priority support via Discord so you can have a direct line to us if you run into any issues or have any questions for us.

Do you offer refunds?

Yes! If you don’t love Lex after a month, reach out and we’d be happy to send you a refund.

Is Lex secure and private?

Yes! All of your data on Lex is privately and securely hosted on our own database. We have strict policies about when our team can access it (e.g., to solve a technical issue) and will always explicitly ask for your permission.

Is my writing being used to training the AI?

No. Lex uses models from OpenAI, Anthropic, and TogetherAI through their respective enterprise APIs. These privacy protections are stronger for Lex as an enterprise customer than they are for you as a consumer. Lex literally pays for this additional privacy on your behalf (one of the reasons we hope you support us with a Lex Pro subscription).

Lex is not training language models and has no immediate plans to do so. If we ever do, we will explicitly inform you via email and allow you to opt out.

Can I use Lex with my team?

Yes! It is totally free to share and collaborate on Lex documents.

If you’re planning on doing a ton of work collaborating in Lex, you might consider adding Lex Teams to your subscription, which enables unlimited group use of Lex folders.

Are “premium AI models” really that much better?

Yes! The difference between free and premium models is drastic. A few of advantages of better Large Language Models (LLMs):

  • Higher intelligence and reasoning capabilities

  • Better responsiveness to detailed instructions

  • Improved handling of large quantities of information

One benefit of subscribing to Lex instead of going directly to companies like OpenAI (ChatGPT) or Anthropic (Claude) is flexibility in the rapidly evolving AI ecosystem. Right now, Claude 3.5 Sonnet is widely regarded as the best LLM for writing, but this will likely change.

Lex lets you easily plug the latest best-in-class LLMs into your workflow, avoiding the hassle of constantly switching between different services, learning new interfaces, and canceling, buying, and testing new subscriptions.

What kind of writing is Lex designed for?

Anything that goes through an edit process that you want to make really good. For example, academic papers that might be submitted to journals, customer-facing copy, emails that really matter, fiction writing that needs a second pair of eyes once you’ve grown too close to it, etc.

How does Lex support work?

While Pro members get priority support through our Discord, we encourage every member of the Lex community to reach out to [email protected] with any questions or feedback.

Can I email you a question?

Absolutely! You can reach us at [email protected].
